Ethics & Standards
At Madreperla.mx, our reputation depends not just on the news we break, but on the trust we build with our audience. We adhere to a rigorous set of standards designed to ensure our journalism is honest, accurate, and fair.
This document outlines the core values that guide our newsroom every day.
1. Our Core Values
Truth Above All: We do not manipulate facts to fit a narrative. We report what happened, even if it is unpopular.
Independence: We answer only to our readers. Our coverage is not influenced by advertisers, sports leagues, or political interests.
Fairness: We strive to present multiple viewpoints on controversial issues. We give subjects of criticism a fair chance to respond.
Transparency: We show our work. We tell you where we got our information, and when we make a mistake, we fix it openly.
2. Standards of Practice
Integrity in Reporting
We do not pay sources for interviews or access.
We do not use undercover methods to gather information unless there is no other way to report on a matter of vital public interest.
We do not plagiarize. All information derived from other media outlets is clearly attributed.
Betting & Gambling Integrity
As a sports news site, we recognize the growing influence of sports betting.
No Insider Betting: Our staff is strictly prohibited from using non-public information gained during their reporting duties to place bets.
Separation: Our betting analysis content is distinct from our news reporting. We provide data and odds for information purposes only, not as financial advice.
Visual Journalism Standards
No Manipulation: Photos and videos used in our news reports must depict reality. We do not digitally alter images (e.g., Photoshop) to mislead the audience or misrepresent a scene.
Labelling: If an image is a “Photo Illustration” or a generic stock image, it will be clearly labeled in the caption.
3. Diversity and Inclusion
Sports are a global language, and our newsroom strives to reflect the diversity of the communities we cover.
We differ to diverse sources and voices in our reporting to ensure we are not presenting a one-sided view of the sporting world.
We are committed to a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.
4. Community Standards
We value the conversation with our readers, but we require civil discourse.
We do not tolerate hate speech, racism, sexism, or threats of violence in our comment sections or social media channels.
We reserve the right to ban users who repeatedly violate these community standards.
5. Public Accountability
We recognize that we are not perfect. When we fall short of these standards, we expect our readers to hold us accountable.
Ombudsman/Public Editor: We review all complaints regarding our ethical conduct.
** Corrections:** Factual errors are corrected immediately (see our Corrections Policy).
